Quality CertifiedFruit Wines Of CanadaWine (w_n) n. 1. The fermented juice of grapes … or
… any fruit. (Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 5th Edition)

Fruit Wines of Canada is a national association of producers who are proving what was known for centuries – that excellent wines can be made from fruits other than grape. "While our industry is small in comparison to the grape wine sector," says Bill Redelmeier, chairman of the FWC, "We are equally as passionate about what we do."

That passion lead Fruit Wines of Canada to establish Quality Certified (QC) standards that allow Canadian Fruit Wines to make a quality statement. An international first, the QC system, and the passion of the producers under this system, is allowing Canada to become known as an international leader in the production of quality Fruit Wines.

Based on the successful Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) system used by the Canadian grape wine industry, QC wines must adhere to strict standards regarding production, packaging, labelling and testing.

Here are some of the Standards of Excellence a wine bearing the QC Seal must meet:
  • It must be made from an authorized Fruit Species. Grapes are not authorized.
  • It must be made from 100% fruit or juice from the region specified.
  • It must pass a stringent lab test.
  • It must be evaluated by a qualified tasting panel. They must deem the wine to be free of faults and look for things like typicity of fruit species character, i.e.: that the specific species character is expressed in the aroma and flavour of the wine.
